Taking a spring break trip as a family allows everyone to decompress.

And while people often associate spring break trips with rambunctious teens or college kids, there are a lot of kid- and family-friendly destinations to choose from.

We love traveling, no matter the time of year, but there’s something uniquely wonderful about traveling during springtime.

Perhaps it’s the milder weather or flora and fauna in bloom.

Or, more than likely, it’s the fewer crowds that make even, the more popular travel destinations a joy to visit during the spring.

So, if you’re looking for spring break ideas and/or somewhere new to go with your family this year, consider one of these spring break trip ideas.

They’re sure to be a hit with every member of your family.

10 Spring Break Trip Ideas For Families

1 – Deer Valley Ski Resort In Park City, Utah

When you think of spring break destinations, a ski resort might not be the first thing that comes to mind.

But Deer Valley Ski Resort is a fantastic kid-friendly vacation destination for families who enjoy skiing.

Even if you’ve never been skiing, Deer Valley is a great place to try it.

In addition to skiing, the whole family can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and more.

Deer Valley Ski Resort’s winter season runs from December 3, 2022, to April 16, 2023.

If you’re looking to plan a trip at the end of March, you can enjoy the best of the resort before they close down to prepare for summer.

While in Park City, you can also check out the Park City Museum or go on a guided tour of Utah Olympic Park.

My family and I visited Deer Valley earlier this year.

It was the perfect family vacation and established Park City and the Deer Valley Ski Resort as our household’s top family spring break destination.

2 – New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a city that buzzes with excitement all year. This Louisiana city is one of our favorite U.S. cities.

In fact, we love it so much that we’ve been four times, and I can’t wait to go back.

The never-ending fun things to do in New Orleans make it one of the best spring break ideas for families.

The weather in Louisiana is mild for most of the year, but it tends to get pretty hot during the summer. You can avoid the summer heat by visiting New Orleans in the spring.

Our favorite kid-friendly New Orleans activities include visiting the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the Audubon Butterfly Garden.

Fun fact – the Audubon Butterfly Garden is the largest museum in America dedicated entirely to insects.

Be sure also to check out City Park, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, and the Audubon Zoo

Finally, your trip to New Orleans wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Cafe Du Monde. Their world-famous beignets are a true delight.

3 – Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Dells, also known as the water park capital of the USA, has some of the best waterparks in the country, several of which are indoors.

The Dells is a perfect winter or spring vacation destination.

Visiting during spring break lets you skip the summer crowds and enjoy the wonderful indoor water parks.

Kalahari Resort, Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort, Chula Vista Resort, Great Wolf Lodge, and Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park are just some of the indoor water parks in Wisconsin Dells.

There are also a ton of other ways to have fun and make memories as a family during your time in Wisconsin.

I wrote an entire post about our favorite things to do in Wisconsin Dells in the Winter.

Once you read it, you’ll understand exactly why I highly recommend Wisconsin Dells for a spring break family vacation.

4 – Houston, Texas

Houston, Texas, is the fourth-largest city in the U.S., so you can bet there are a ton of things for your whole family to enjoy.

I think Texas is one of the best states to visit with kids, so Houston was an easy pick for one of the best spring break trip destinations for families.

Some of our favorite things to do in Houston with kids include:

You could spend your entire spring break trip in Houston and still not have enough time to do everything.

There really is something for everyone, meaning it’ll be easy to plan a trip each family member can enjoy.

5 – Jackson, Mississippi

Jackson, Mississippi, is another destination you probably don’t immediately think of as a family spring break trip, but it is excellent.

I actually think that some of the best family vacation ideas involve lesser-known destinations like Jackson.

There is so much to do in Jackson with kids!

Plus, March is a great time to visit Jackson to avoid the heat and hurricane season.

Some of our favorite things to do in the city as a family include:

6 – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is the kind of place you can visit any time of year for a great vacation.

It’s especially excellent for a family vacation, given the number of kid-friendly things.

Myrtle Beach is a top tourist destination with so much to offer that you can practically create your dream vacation.

You can stay at an R.V. park as we did or one of the many hotels, beach resorts, or vacation rentals.

You can still enjoy the miles of sandy oceanfront in March and April, but the water will be too cold for a refreshing swim.

(Or rather, it will be extra refreshing, and maybe not in a good way.)

Even with that in mind, you can still expect the weather to be very pleasant!

However, there is so much more to do in Myrtle Beach away from the water.

Some of our favorite family-friendly activities in the area include Ripley’s Aquarium, Wonderworks, Broadway Grand Prix, and The Carolina Opry Show.

And that’s to name a few!

7 – Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia, is a beautiful city with abundant history and southern hospitality.

But it’s not a place people often consider a spring break destination.

Perhaps that’s part of its appeal. You won’t be slowed down by hoards of obnoxious spring breakers here!

When we visited in May 2021, we were pleasantly surprised by the kid-friendly activities available, almost to the point that it was slightly overwhelming.

But as long as you plan, you can have a fantastic spring break in Savannah with your family.

I recommend the following family-friendly things to do in Savannah:

8 – Orlando, Florida

Orlando, Florida, is one of the top vacation destinations in the United States.

Families travel from all over the country, and even around the world, to visit the famous theme parks in Orlando.

But here’s the thing – there’s so much more to do in Orlando besides theme parks!

Before we get into the countless kid-friendly activities, let me point out that there are also a ton of places to stay.

There’s something to fit every budget, from laidback motels or R.V. parks to an all-inclusive resort like the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort.

I guarantee you’ll find something just right for your family.

As for things to do, here are some of my favorite family-friendly activities in Orlando:

9 – Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C., is a vacation destination that people of all ages can enjoy any time of year.

There’s so much to do in D.C.; you can easily spend a week sightseeing, museum hopping, and more.

The weather is surprisingly pleasant by late March or early April, so you can enjoy a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor activities.

However, if you or someone in your family has seasonal allergies, come prepared with plenty of allergy medication. Allergies tend to be worse in the city during the spring.

Seeing the various monuments and memorials up close and personal is necessary for D.C.

Take advantage of money-saving, multi-day trolley specials for an inexpensive and convenient way to get from one monument to the next.

Also, don’t miss the Jefferson Memorial, Roosevelt Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, or the Vietnam Memorial!

They’re totally free to visit.

Other places you’ll want to check out include:

10- San Diego, California

San Diego, California, is such a fantastic spring break destination.

There are countless things for the whole family to do, from the San Diego Zoo to numerous theme parks and amusement parks.

Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Legoland offer good times for everyone.

Some of my favorite budget-friendly spring break trips for families involve scenic road trips.

Also, very few road trips can compare to the one from San Diego to Yosemite National Park.

If you have a long enough spring break, you could spend a few days in San Diego, pack the kiddos, and head to Yosemite.

It’s a six-hour trip almost as beautiful as the national park.

It’s okay if your kids don’t remember the trips, because you will, and that matters too.

Remember: It’s okay if your kids don’t remember the trips, because you will, and that matters too.

As the end of winter approaches, the excitement for spring break builds.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation, an outdoor adventure, or a cultural experience, there are endless options for a fun and memorable spring break trip with your family.

With this guide to spring break trip ideas, we hope we’ve inspired you to plan your next family getaway.

Remember, the key to a successful trip is planning, setting a budget, and being open to trying new things.

So pack your bags, gather your loved ones, and get ready to create unforgettable memories. Happy spring break!
