Savannah is rich with southern hospitality and history and a great place to go if you’re looking for your next great adventure as a family. There is a ton to offer anyone who visits, and there are so many things to do with kids in Savannah that it can be a little overwhelming to plan your trip.

We visited Savannah in May and the weather was beautiful, not too hot or not too cold. We stayed at Creek Fire RV Resort and really enjoyed it. Very nice RV resort with lots of amenities such as a pool, lazy river, restaurant on site, peaceful reading nooks, and lake.

I highly recommend visiting this beautiful city in Georgia, that is why I put together a list of the best things to do in Savannah when you’re visiting with your kids! From museums to tours to walking down River Street, here are 20 things to do in Savannah, Georgia, with kids.

20+ Things To Do In Savannah, Georgia With Kids

Leopold’s

Take your kids to Leopold’s for a delicious staple of Savannah, Georgia. Their homemade ice cream is well worth the wait and located right on Broughton Street. If ice cream isn’t your thing, you can also try a coke float or other old-fashioned treat.

Savannah Children’s Museum

You’ll find this museum in Tricentennial park, and it is an excellent museum for your little ones! This museum is entirely outdoors and was made from a Georgia Railway Carpentry shop. Now, you’ll find an incredible exploration maze, sensory garden, and tons of fun for your kids.

African Baptist Church

The church was built in 1881 and is one of the oldest black churches in Georgia. It is located on Abercorn Street in Savannah’s historic district. Visitors can tour the church and learn about its history from a guide who’ll explain how it has been used by slaves and freedmen since it was built. The tour takes about an hour and is free of charge, but donations are accepted.

Forsyth Park

If you’re looking for a quick stop for your kids to burn off some energy or take a break, this park is perfect! Your kids will love playing on the playgrounds, drawing on the sidewalk, or enjoying an outdoor concert.

Roundhouse Railroad Museum

The Roundhouse Railroad Museum is the most complete antebellum railroad complex in all of the United States! You can see many historic railroad structures such as a print shop, a blacksmith, and even a machine shop. You can also see tons of interactive demos and trains here.

Skidaway Island State Park

This beautiful slice of paradise is 588 acres of Georgia’s Intracoastal waterway. This state park has excellent trails for hiking and seeing wildlife and playgrounds for the kids.

Tybee Island

If you’re looking to hit the beach, head to Savannah’s beach at Tybee Island. This laid-back beach spot is perfect for those of you wanting to get away for a beach weekend. Soak in the sun, look for shells, or climb to the top of the lighthouse on the beach.

Wilkes Dining Room

If you’re looking for a great lunch spot while you’re in Savannah, head to Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room for southern-style eats in a communal dining room that will give an authentic southern comfort style of eating. 

Wormsloe Historic Site

There are fun re-enactments here as well as many significant events throughout the year. The towering oak trees and Spanish moss found here make this majestic site worth visiting. You can complete the easy hike here in just under an hour, so this is an excellent way for you and your kids to stretch your legs.

Webb Military Museum

At this museum, you’ll find a ton of incredible military artifacts from the Civil War. Specifically, you’ll find everything from uniforms to gear from Operation Desert Storm.

Old Town Trolley Tour

Savannah has an Old Town Trolley Tour which is a great way to get a feel for the city of Savannah. Hop onto the trolley as you ride around the city, learning all about the attractions and historic landmarks in the city.

Fort Pulaski National Monument

The Confederate Army occupied this fort during the Civil War. While this place is an excellent bit of historical significance that your family can explore, there are also great views of the marsh and the river.

Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace

If you have a girl scout in the family, they will love going to visit the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace! Juliette was the founder of the Girl Scouts of America, and this home is a fantastic sight to see! 

Savannah Riverboat Cruise

If you’re looking for a great way to spend an evening, take your kids on a riverboat cruise! You will get to see a completely different side of Savannah and spend time on the Savannah River listening to historical tales and so much more!

River Street

Taking your kids to River Street is a must-do if you’re visiting the area. Not only is it a great way to get them out and explore, but it will also give them a chance to take in some of Savannah’s historic landmarks that they won’t find anywhere else. The cobblestone street is lined with shops and restaurants where you can eat and shop while watching the riverboats go by. There are also plenty of things for your kids to do, such as getting their faces painted or visiting one of the many museums along the way.

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge

Pack your hiking shoes and head out to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. Located in South Carolina and Georgia along the Savannah River, this place is home to tons of wildlife and a great place to go bird-watching or hiking.

Fort Jackson

Fort Jackson is a great place for kids! There are tons of historical landmarks and activities for your little ones to get involved with. They can learn about the Civil War and see the historic buildings that were built there. They can also climb on the cannons or do some other fun activities like going to the zoo. There is also an indoor playground where they can run around and have fun without getting too hot outside in the summertime.

City Market

City Market is an excellent place if you’re looking to do some shopping, grab some lunch, or find something fun for the whole family to enjoy. You can head to the American Prohibition Museum, do an Old Town Trolley Tour here, or stop inside Savannah’s Candy Kitchen for something sweet.

Savannah History Museum

While this small history museum is small in size, it was the former home of a Georgia Railway passenger depot. You can visit the very same bench Forrest Gump sat on and get a detailed history of everything inside the museum.

Owens Thomas House

If you’re looking for a kid-friendly way of making your kids fall in love with history, we recommend taking them to the Owens Thomas House in Savannah, Georgia. This historic landmark has been around since 1812 and is one of the most significant examples of Federal architecture in the Southern United States. It was also one of the first homes to be built in Savannah by a free African American.

Grayson Stadium

If you have a baseball fan in the family, take them to a Bananas game at Grayson Stadium! So many great baseball players have set foot in this stadium, such as Jackie Robinson and Babe Ruth! 

Old Savannah Tours

Old Savannah Tours offers many different tours. Of course, the best tours are the land and sea tours, where you climb aboard the Savannah River Queen for a lovely afternoon of information and sights along the water. However, the ghost tours and trolley tours are also great ways to get an insider look into the town of Savannah.

Georgia State Railroad Museum

Adjacent to the History Museum, you’ll find the Railroad Museum. This museum is perfect for train lovers who want to see and learn about all things trains!

Tybee Island Marine Science Center

Savannah is full of marine life from the waterways and marshland that make up the city of Savannah. Your kids can learn about the different seashells and the dunes and do a one-hour Turtle Talk walk and learn more about the sea turtles here.

Savannah Seafood Shack

Make sure to eat at Savannah Seafood Shack! We’ve has seafood all over the U.S. and this is some of the best seafood I’ve ever had. We ordered almost everything on the menu and it did not disappoint.
