Myrtle Beach is a top tourist destination located in South Carolina’s northeastern coast. The name Myrtle Beach is inspired by the wax myrtle trees growing on the coast. Myrtle Beach was incorporated in 1938 and became a city in 1957 with an initial population of 5000 residents.

We visited Myrtle Beach in June and the weather was very pleasant. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was the perfect weather for the pool and beach as well as all the activities we did there.

As you can tell from the photo below, we were all happy to check off South Carolina from our list of states to visit. As you know, our goal is to visit every U.S. State and Territory.

Where to Stay In Myrtle Beach With Kids

We stayed at Myrtle Beach Travel Park which is an RV park that provides direct access to the beach. This RV park also has an outdoor pool. heated indoor pool, splash pool, beach volleyball court, freshwater lake for fishing, horseshoe pit, lazy river, playground, and a breakfast restaurant right on site.

Myrtle Beach has plenty of options for fun activities to do with kids. From exciting beaches to amusement parks, thrilling rides and events, your kids will have a lot of fun. Aiden and his cousins keep asking when I can take them to Myrtle Beach again. 

Dave and Buster’s

Dave and Buster offers food and drinks to travellers. Besides a great meal, it has the latest video games including PAC-MAN and virtual reality games such as Jurassic World.

Dave and Buster also has a sports bar providing parents the perfect setting to watch their favorite sports and enjoy a drink as the kids play their games.

Ripley’s Aquarium

Just like the sea is home to different species, so is the Ripley’s Aquarium. It is 85,000 square feet in size and hosts both seasonal and travelling exhibits. You can expect to see piranhas, urchins, horse-shoe crabs, Coral reefs, penguins and much more.

You can also get to experience diving with sharks, glass-bottom boat adventures and more. The aquarium is both entertaining and educational, especially for kids as they get to see and learn about sea creatures. 

Barefoot Queen Myrtle Beach Sight-seeing and Dinner Cruises

At Barefoot Landing, you will find a Dockside Village with a children’s playground and amphitheater. The amphitheater showcases family-friendly festivals and events all year round such as free food tasting, live music.

In the summer, fireworks display every Monday, there are car shows, charity events and more. In October, there are Halloween-themed events and more! There are several retail shops at Barefoot as well as local boutiques where you can buy souvenirs. 

Mini Golf

There are several places to go mini golfing in Myrtle Beach with kids. All of the mini golf courses are perfect for families featuring rushing streams, waterfalls, hills, dinosaurs, exploding volcanoes and shipwrecked pirates.

Myrtle Beach Deep Sea Fishing 

Fishing is a fun activity for kids especially if aboard a big charter boat and deep in the sea. Deep-sea fishing along Myrtle Beach has become a fun activity for both locals and tourists.

It sets off in the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean where you can expect to catch different fish species including Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Cobia, Founder, Red Fish, and Black Drum. If you are adventurous enough you might catch a snapper, grouper a porgy, or opt to go shark fishing.

Be sure to check on the kids age limits as they are different provisions based on the type of fish hunting activities.

Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens was created in 1931 by Anne and Archer Huntington. It has since been marked as a historic site rich in flora, fauna and outdoor American Sculpture.

The garden is nine thousand acres with animal enclosures, a butterfly house, peace garden room, hidden pathways, fountains and reflecting pools. Here guests can also learn about the rice plantations of the 1800s and the Gullah culture of the enslaved African workers. 

Wonderworks

Wonderworks is a 50,000 square feet science-themed amusement park. The amusement park is both educational and entertaining and is guaranteed to spark your imagination and open up your mind to a world of possibilities.

Your kids will enjoy making life-sized bubbles in the Bubble Lab, enjoy the astronaut experience at Astronaut training Gyro or challenge their fears in Glow-In-The-Dark Ropes Course.

Children’s Pirate Adventure 

If you want to give your kids an incredible pirate story while in Myrtle Beach with kids, the Pirate Adventures is a must activity at Myrtle Beach. The kids get to have the whole pirate experience; from a painted curly moustache, to an anchor tattoo and a lucky treasure hunting vest, they embark on a treasure hunt aboard the Sea Gypsy.

The boat is loaded with water cannons as you never know what enemies you may face along the cruise. This hour-long cruise is guaranteed to give your kids the ultimate pirate adventure.  

Broadway Grand Prix 

The Broadway Grand Prix rolled out a 20,000 square feet arcade with over 90 games including, Nerf, Hot Wheels, Lane Master and Ice Ball. Be sure and check out their new Max Flight Simulator!  Other than the arcade, you will find go Karts, a rock climbing wall and 18 hole mini golfs at the Broadway Grand Prix.

The kids got a chance to practice their gymnastics moves at Grand Prix and loved it. There are so many fun things to do here. I recommend it for a full day activity. Reminded us of the fair.

Myrtle Beach Dolphin Sight-seeing Cruises

Myrtle Beach is home to dolphin sight-seeing. The two-hour cruise starts at the beach heading out into the ocean. You can either sail on the Sea Thunder or Sea Screamer boats.

The cruise course features distant coastal areas and uninhabited islands. You will spot dolphins as soon as you enter the ocean. Often the sailors spot the dolphins taking the guests towards the dolphins. This way, everyone is guaranteed to sight a dolphin at close range.

The Pirates Voyage Dinner and Show

A nice meal accompanied by some entertainment is something to go for. Myrtle Beach hosts pirate-themed shows where two pirate ships battle while people enjoy their meals. 

Myrtle Beach has long been known to be home to real pirates and hence the pirate shows are a must watch.

Amid all the fun activities, it is possible to forget about the guided tours throughout Myrtle Beach. These tours showcase the rich history and culture of the inhabitants as well as the scenic and historic places along the beach.

There are more than 20 guided tours to choose from when in Myrtle Beach with kids. The entire family will enjoy learning the history and culture of Myrtle Beach in addition to all the golfing, amusement and waterpark activities. 

The Funplex 

When you visit Myrtle Beach with kids it is worth visiting the Funplex. The Funplex features an up & over board, sky velocity, hook & slice, fun in the sun, hang ten silly cups and sunny day swing.

All these rides are attractive to kids providing a fun filled thrill experience to kids while in Myrtle Beach with kids. Also, Funplex features a walk-up bar and restaurant and has a kids’ inspired menu with items such as fried Oreos, ice cream and funnel cakes. 

Le Grand Cirque Myrtle Beach 

If you are a fan of tricks and acrobatic displays, then this place will do wonders for you. Le Grand Cirque is a great circus that will leave you stunned to the core. The two-hour show relies on lighting, music and pantomime as it is zero-spoken. The show is drama-filled, entertaining and hilarious to say the least. 

Wild Water and Wheels Water Park

The Southern Living Magazine describes the Dark Hole as the best scary ride in wild water and wheels park. Besides the Dark Hole, there are 32 other exciting rides, a racing zone with go-carts and a mini-golf course and bumper boat rides. 

Big Air Trampoline Park

Big Air Trampoline Park in Myrtle Beach is open for kids and features over 15 games. Kids can get into team battles, jump, play and dunk all in one place. There is a parent’s lounge with free WIFI where parents can relax as the kids indulge in bouncing games.

Back Stage Escape Games

This is a fun-filled, mental challenge game perfect for every family when in Myrtle Beach with kids. You are locked in a room and have 60 minutes to find clues and answers to puzzles to help you escape the room before the 60-minute timer.

There are three escape rooms to choose from each with a different tale you need to solve. All three escape rooms can accommodate up to 8 people. 

Hollywood Wax Museum Myrtle Beach 

The Hollywood Wax Museum is a place for exploration and admiring some of the famous wax figure stars while in Myrtle Beach with kids. From the red carpet reception, visitors get up-close to some of their favorite artists for a photo session.

In addition to hanging out with your favorite pop star, you get to walk through Hannah’s maze of mirrors and figure out a way to save princess Hannah from an evil spell before time runs out. 

Myrtle Beach Skywheel

Myrtle Beach SkyWheel was opened in 2011 and it stands 187 feet above the ocean with climate-controlled gondolas that sit up to 6 people. However, separate parties cannot be mixed.

Prices are $12 for kids and $16 for adults. They also offer VIP and Sunrise flights. The SkyWheel is the Centerpiece of the beach and provides a perfect background to take amazing family photos.

Rockin’ Jump

This is one of Myrtle Beach’s indoor trampoline park. We all know how trampoline jumping can be a fun workout. To get your heart pumping while having fun, be sure to visit Rockin’ Jump.

The trampoline park recently added the Wipe Out which lets guests leap, jump and dodge rotating sweeper bars while competing against teams. This trampoline park will challenge your strength and endurance as well as provide the best family fun-packed indoor activity for all ages.

Ultra Zone Extreme Laser Tag

This is a fun activity that your kids will enjoy, especially tweens and teenagers. The smoke-filled battlefield with bunkers, corridors and obstacles provides the perfect ground for energy-packed families to engage in a safe and fun game of laser tag. Each game lasts about 30 minutes.

Family Kingdom

Family Kingdom Amusement Park has both water slides and high-flying rides. The park has over 35 different rides each providing a different experience.

Some of the popular rides are Swamp Fox Wooden Roller Coaster, steel Twist ‘N Shout roller coaster, Slingshot Drop Zone and Kite Flyer.  Frog Hopper and Flight School rides are specifically designed for kids.

We all know how dangerous alligators can be, but have you experienced their calm nature? The Alligator Adventure is a 15acre park housing alligators, crocodiles, venomous snakes and reptiles, and non-reptile animals such as flamingoes, squirrel monkeys and hyenas.

On a sunny day, you can spot several alligators basking in the sun. The alligator handlers host live handling shows which are fascinating to watch. You can also spot the handlers enticing alligators out of the waters for feeding. 

Top Golf

In fact, Top golf is one the best places to visit with kids in Myrtle Beach which offers food and golf in one setting. Top golf basically offers golfing games for all ages, a climate-controlled hitting bay, food and beverage, HDTV to watch your games and great music if you want to get your dance on.

The prices are friendly with golf players paying $5 each. The hitting bay prices start at $25/hour.

Grand 14 Cinema

The Grand 14 Cinema is a modern cinema with 2600 comfortable seats with retracting arm rests, a digital Dolby sound and large screens. It is conveniently located at The Market Common and has different recent movies showing throughout.

As a family, you can enjoy a family movie to unwind especially after a day of other high thrills, tiring activities.  

Sugar Candy Store

There are three distinct candy shops in Myrtle Beach. I Love Sugar, Sugar Kingdom and Its Sugar candy shops will give you and your kids the sugar rash you all need to indulge in all the exciting activities in Myrtle Beach.

You can also purchase candy to take back home after your visit. Either way, your kids will not miss spotting these candy shops and you will have a hard time controlling their candy appetite. 

810 Billiards & Bowling

The 810 Billiards & Bowling alley has 20 bowling lanes in addition to billiards, darts, board games and much more. It is perfect for indoor, relaxing activities as you grab a quick bite and drink. 

Kokopelli Surf Camp

Surfing is a fun water activity for both kids and adults. The Kokopelli Surf Camp trains inexperienced surfers how to surf and guarantees to have you surfing within an hour.

The trainers and surf tour guides are none other than 2014 East Coast Longboard surfing champion Wyatt Todd and his brother Brandon Todd who is a World Surf League professional surfer. Besides surfing, you can also participate in kayaking and paddle-boarding.
