If you are an entrepreneur or even just a parent interested in teaching your children about money and entrepreneurship at a young age, then it is important have resources such as books to help.

As a parent, I’m a firm believer in exposure. We have to make sure that we are teaching, talking to and exposing our children to new things as often as possible. Make sure to encourage your children to dream big, and most of all, support their dreams regardless of how little or out of this world they are. That’s the least you can do for them as a parent.⁣

Karen Akpan, The Mom Trotter

When you expose your kids to as many new things as you can, they have the opportunity to form their own opinions as well as know that they have a wide variety of options when they grow up. It gives them them the opportunity to start to figure out now, what they want their future to look like. Remember, your children can’t want to be something they’ve never heard off or even know exist.

Lunch Money

Greg Kenton has always had a natural talent for making money despite the annoying rivalry of his neighbor Maura Shaw. Then, just before sixth grade, Greg makes a discovery: Almost every kid at school has an extra quarter or two to spend almost every day.

Multiply a few quarters by a few hundred kids, and for Greg, school suddenly looks like a giant piggy bank. All he needs is the right hammer to crack it open. Candy and gum? Little toys? Sure, kids would love to buy stuff like that at school. But would teachers and the principal permit it? Not likely.

But how about comic books? Comic books might work. Especially the chunky little ones that Greg writes and illustrates himself. Because everybody knows that school always encourages reading and writing and creativity and individual initiative, right?

In this book, the author invites young readers to think about money, school, friendship, and what it means to be a success.

Business School For Kids

One thing that I did with the kids which was fun, was ask them to dress up like a “boss” or an “entrepreneur” and come down and show me their outfits. I was so proud of how well they put themselves together.

I even overheard the boys saying they looks like “businessmen”, and it made me very excited. I wanted all of the kids to be in character for business school and they were. One of the girls even wore a tie. They were all SO cute!!

Milania, 6 and Aiden, 7

In business school we discussed money, talked about what they want to be when they grow up and answered a few questions on entrepreneurship. We plan to do this at least once every two weeks, introducing a new chapter and making sure the kids understand before starting a new topic. You can watch a short clip from one of our classes below:

When I introduce the kids to anything new, I make sure that they not only learn about it, but also dress up the part. Like the time when they wore pilot costumes and flew a plane, or the time when they dressed up as astronauts and visited NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
